Tras más de medio siglo en el país, Alimentos Kellogg’s cierra sus puertas en Venezuela

La compañía realizó la liquidación de sus empleados y el pago de los salarios, beneficios y prestaciones sociales de cada uno de los trabajadores.

La empresa Alimentos Kellogg’s anunció la suspensión de sus operaciones en el país a partir de este martes 15 de mayo, luego de más de medio siglo en el país (1961). Esta información se conoció por medio de un comunicado que se difundió en las redes sociales.

En el documento difundido se conoció que la empresa ejecutó la liquidación de sus empleados y, además, realizó el pago de los salarios, beneficios y prestaciones sociales de cada trabajador de Kellogg’s.

Además, en la introducción del comunicado se lee lo siguiente, “por este medio informamos que Alimentos Kellogg’s S.A se ha visto forzada cesar sus operaciones en el país con efectos a partir de hoy 15 de mayo de 2018”.

Más tarde, un comunicado formal, corporativo, desde la casa matriz confirmaba el alcance del abandono:

“La distribución de los productos Kellogg’s en Venezuela ha sido suspendida y los acuerdos de licencia para el uso y comercialización de sus marcas e imágenes en Venezuela han sido terminados. Ningún producto de Kellogg’s o sus marcas pueden ser comercializadas en el país sin una autorización expresa de Kellogg’s Company”, dice un comunicado de la empresa divulgado en inglés por su casa matriz en Michigan (Estados Unidos).

El texto agradece al equipo de Venezuela “por su compromiso” y apoyo y dice que la empresa continuará en América Latina, “mirando hacia el futuro la posibilidad de reactivar operaciones “tan pronto las condiciones del país lo permitan”.

Esta noticia sorprendió a los más de 400 trabajadores de la planta, que a partir de este martes quedan desempleados.En un país con una de las inflaciones más alta del mundo, con uno de los salarios más bajos de la región y con una escasez de alimentos y medicamentos muy pronunciada única en su historia.

Los trabajadores de la empresa manifestaron que la liquidación que les dieron no es suficiente debido a la situación que atraviesa el país. Anunciaron que la decisión fue tomada por las autoridades de Alimentos Kellogg’s fuera del país, esto según lo reseñado por El Nacional.

La compañía junto a sus reconocidas marcas: Corn Flakes, Special K y Zucaritas, se despiden del país dejando a los venezolanos con cada vez menos opciones para la compra de cereales.

Ante el cierre de esta empresa, el presidente Nicolás Maduro, durante un acto de campaña en el estado Carabobo, calificó el hecho como “inconstitucional e ilegal” y anunció que la planta fue reabierta por las autoridades y entregada a los trabajadores para que la mantengan produciendo.

Según reseña El Interés, una copia de la carta a los trabajadores estaba pegada a las puertas cerradas de la planta en San Jacinto Maracay, constataron periodistas de la zona en la mañana del martes, dijo desde Maracay la reportera Gregoria Díaz. Poco después el papel fue removido del lugar.

Decenas de personas estaban aglomeradas a las puertas de la planta a la espera de representantes del ministerio del Trabajo y de la gobernación oficialista del estado Aragua, dijeron testigos. Ni el sindicato ni los trabajadores quisieron declarar de inmediato sobre el caso a los medios de comunicación regionales apostados allí.

Otra fuente vinculada a la actividad industrial privada dijo, bajo condición de anonimato, que para evitar represalias del gobierno la planta fue cerrada. Afirmó que los directivos de la empresa eran extranjeros y ya abandonaron Venezuela.

La carta en cuestión incluye unos números telefónicos pero no fue posible obtener de  inmediato ninguna confirmación adicional, aunque al otro lado de la línea tomaban registros detallados de todas las personas que llamaban.

Desde hace meses los consumidores de estos productos tenían problemas para ubicarlos en el comercio local. Los empaques de los cereales tradicionales como Zucaritas, del “Tigre Tony”; Corn Flakes, las hojuelas originales del gallo Cornelio, y Chococrispies, el arroz inflado del elefante Melvin, fueron transformados por la escasez en la crisis venezolana, descoloridos, en cartón grueso.

La empresa aprovechó esa dificultad para decir que los empaques tenían fines ecológicos, mientras los precios subían en disparada al compás de la hiperinflación.
