Por tradición en el cultivo de piña en Venezuela, la zona norte del estado Lara ha producido piñas para satisfacer la demanda de los mercados del país. El productor larense Asdrúbal Aricuco cosecha piñas con calidad industrial. “Estamos guapeando para seguir produciendo, pero las ganas de sacar adelante a Venezuela no nos detiene”, afirmó a Vida Agro.

Coloridas, dulces y jugosas. Así son las piñas que cosecha cada año y medio el productor Asdrúbal Aricuco, en el sector Las Playitas, municipio Iribarren del estado Lara. En cada una de las 140 hectáreas que tiene sembrada en su finca, este artesano del campo saca 42 toneladas de piña que son llevadas al mercado fresco de frutas y a las industrias procesadoras de jugos y chocolates.
La piña cultivada en la parroquia Águedo Felipe Alvarado es considerada la más dulce de toda Venezuela. Las zafras mayores son en los meses de mayo, julio y febrero. Las variedad de piña que cosechan en el estado Lara es la denominada “española roja”, de frutos rojos y amarillentos, poseedora de abundante fibra y muy resistente al transporte.
Aricuco muestra su cultivo de piña en el que emplea fertilizante totalmente orgánico.
“Cuando la gente prueba las piñas que cosechamos en esta zona de Lara quedan encantados porque su sabor es muy natural, de verdad saben a piña, no son insípidas, y eso se debe a que en el proceso de cultivo usamos el fertilizante totalmente orgánico Vita Fertilizante“, explicó a Vida Agro el productor Aricuco, de 38 años, y quien ha dedicado 14 años a la agricultura.
“Antes de usar este fertilizante orgánico, en 2016, teníamos un rendimiento de 35 toneladas por hectárea y ahora subimos a 42 toneladas con el ‘Vita’”, agregó.
La piña es la segunda fruta con mayor volumen de producción en Venezuela. En el año 2015 alcanzó 522.489 toneladas, de acuerdo con las estadísticas manejadas por la Confederación de Asociaciones de Productores Agropecuarios (Fedeagro) en su página web. En primer lugar se ubicar el plátano, con 649.444 toneladas de producción; en tercer peldaño el cambur con 490.582 toneladas; y en cuarta posición la naranja con 429.296 toneladas.
La piña en Venezuela se cultiva principalmente en los estados Lara, Trujillo, Bolívar, Anzoátegui, Sucre, Monagas y Táchira. Según el Ministerio de Agricultura, Lara es el primer productor de piña en el país con 16.870 hectáreas. Asimismo, resalta que Venezuela se ubica entre los 10 países mayores productores de piña después de Costa Rica (2,6 millones TM); Brasil (2.480TM); Filipinas; Tailandia; Indonesia; India; Nigeria; China; México; Colombia; y Vietnam.

Gran parte de la cosecha que saca el productor Aricuco la dirige a los mercados mayoristas de ciudades como Barquisimeto, Valencia, Caracas, Maracaibo, y algunas zonas del estado Táchira.

“La empresa Nestlé me compró el año pasado 150 toneladas para hacer un concentrado de piña. Nuestras frutas son de muy buena calidad. Dios permita que algún día podamos exportar piña a otros países”, confía el larense.
Una realidad que ha trastocado a los productores es el encarecimiento y la escasez de los agroquímicos. “En Agropatria compramos apenas un 20% de los insecticidas y herbicidas; lo demás tenemos que comprarlo por fuera a precios muy caros”, aseguró Aricuco. “El kilo lo vendemos a 160 bolívares por kilo, y en el mercado fresco por unidad la venden entre 200 y hasta 300 bolívares por unidad”.
“Estamos guapeando para seguir produciendo porque no solo son los costos de los insumos, la reparación de la maquinaria cuesta millones de bolívares. Pero las ganas de sacar el país adelante no nos detiene. Dios nos dio unas tierras privilegiadas y confiamos en él que esta tormenta tiene que pasar algún día”, completó el agricultor.
