Cifras de maíz del Gobierno no coinciden con las de Fedeagro

El ministro de Agricultura Productiva y Tierras, Wilmar Castro Soteldo, informó el pasado miércoles que se van a cosechar un total de 641.341 hectáreas, solamente en cereales, sin embargo estas cifras no coinciden con las registradas por la Confederación Nacional de Asociaciones de Agricultores  (Fedeagro), el gremio agrícola privado más importante del país y que aporta, según lo ha reconocido el propio ministro de Agricultura, el 80% de la producción nacional de cereales.

Una nota de la gubernamental Agencia Venezolana de Noticias (AVN) precisa que los registros del Ministerio para la Agricultura Productiva y Tierras indican que este año irán a cosecha 505.599 hectáreas de maíz blanco y amarillo.

Pero, cuadros de Fedeagro indican otros números. Según un cuadro comparativo de de siembra de maíz 2016/2017, facilitado a Vida Agro, se muestra que  la asociaciones agrupadas a este gremio sembraron apenas un total de 156.130 hectáreas entre maíz amarillo y blanco, lo que representaría un 31% del total anunciado por el Gobierno.

De maíz blanco, Fedeagro sembró 66.311 hectáreas y de amarillo 91.675 hectáreas, lo que representa una caída de 66% con respecto a  la intención de siembra que se ubica en los últimos cuatro ciclos en 458 mil hectáreas, de acuerdo con el gremio. Asimismo, representa una caída de 52,4% con respecto al 2016, cuando se sembraron 297.779 hectáreas, pese a que el ministro afirma que hubo un incremento en el área de siembra en este ciclo, al señalar que en 2016 fueron cultivadas  «516.000 hectáreas de cereales a nivel nacional“.

La diferencia entre las cifras de maíz del Gobierno y de las de Fedeagro es de 349.469 hectáreas, de allí salta la pegunta ¿Quién las sembró?, pues Fedeagro advirtió que solo pudo sembrar el 30% de lo esperado por falta de insumos, y el Gobierno no ha detallado cuáles son los aportes de cada ente adscrito a él. En los últimos años las instancias del estado han aportado menos de un 20%, aproximadamente, a la producción nacional. El presidente de AgroFanb, vicelamirante, José Aguilera, asomó, por ejemplo, en la alocución con Maduro que este año «tenemos 104 mil hectáreas sembradas en maíz y arroz», sin precisar cuánto para cada rubro.

El director de Maíz de Fedeagro, Celso Fantinel, consultado por Vida Agro, fue tajante ante la pregunta: “Esas cifras son puras mentiras. Lo que pasa es que hay gente diciéndole al Gobierno que sembró miles de hectáreas para calmar a la banca, y eso lo hacen para que a la final nos ofrezcan, a los productores, comprar el maíz a un precio de gallina flaca. No podemos con tantos embustes, ¿así cómo podemos hacer país?, es indignante esta situación, es un descaro”.

El también director de Fedeagro, Roberto Latini, se pronunció sobre estas cifras,  a través de su cuenta en Twitter. “Todas manipuladas y, además, completamente falso que esta sea la mayor cosecha en los últimos 10 años”, como destacó el presidente Nicolás Maduro durante su visita al estado Portuguesa para el inicio de la cosecha nacional de maíz correspondiente al ciclo invierno.

El presidente de Fedeagro, Aquiles Hopkins, agregó desde la red social: «2017 es el peor año en producción nacional de alimentos de la última década, abastecemos en 30% del consumo nacional».

El maíz fue el primer rubro cultivado por los indígenas venezolanos y ha sido el cereal más sembrado en el país. La mayor producción del cereal se obtuvo en 2008 con 2 millones 995 mil 710 toneladas, según cifras de Fedeagro.

El país necesita alrededor de 1.300.000 toneladas, solo de maíz blanco para cubrir la demanda de harina precocida. Hasta 2012, Venezuela se autoabastecía de este rubro.

La producción agrícola este año 2017 no es para nada alentador, pronósticos reservados estiman una caída de no menos de 50%, pese a que el Gobierno asegure todo lo contrario. Basta con salir al mercado para confirmarlo. La escasez, el desabastecimiento y el hambre está a la vista, así como los altos precios de los productos.
